INFOSAT

INFOSAT – (INFO)rmation by (SAT)ellite, was a project co-funded by ASI (Italian Space Agency) with the purpose to study the mobility of citizen in urban and suburban areas. It has designed and validate a infomobility prototype system including the demonstration of end-user services.

InfoMobility is the word used to express all processes, services and applications, related to the “intelligent management” of the mobility of things, vehicles and people including information relevant to them. These processes are now the key factors of expansion, economic growth, technological innovation and improvement of services of the society in which we live. InfoMobility introduce a new concept of services so-called Location Based Services (LBS); they provide you all information related the mobility.  At the base Infomobility there is therefore an important and indispensable component technology represented by satellite tracking systems for which is now available EGNOS signal, which is the precursor of Galileo in terms of services provided, and the construction was started in the territory Regional, the Galileo Test Range (GTR), which can be used in the early stages of the demonstration project to evaluate the transition INFOSAT EGNOS-GALILEO and benefits from the services of the latter.

The project operative scenarios were focused on three different application areas:

  1. Electronic tolling and city areas access control (Limited Traffic Zones, Parking Areas);
  2. Traffic monitoring and control;
  3. Prevention, rescue and assistance in emergency situations.

The ICT Architecture can be summarized as:

  • Service Center: SOA-based service center interfacing both with mobile terminals to collect info, elaborate them and derive rich integrated results to different customers (from users themselves to infrastructures owners), and with content providers (e.g. TMC traffic data) to complement, complete and refine services coming out from information rich elaborations.
  • Positioning Component: Based on EGNOS receivers and on Local Elements GPS/EGNOS based too.
  • User Terminal: Two types of Terminals have been used, to support a system approach targeted both to integrate the existent and to allow functional evolutions and system scalability: terminals already present on the market, and terminals derived from COTS, built by integrating general purpose HW and SW components on the market.
  • SW Infrastructure: It represent the glue for the entire system, guaranteeing its interoperability with respect to components that are technologically different (both within the system and external to it), in a development contest naturally constrained to be based on adequate standards of performance and scalability both dimensional and functional.

Who will benefit:

  • Institutions – developing services for the citizen: to develop technologies and employment on their territory, to improve synergies with other national initiatives on a local, fit authoritatively in the European scenario.
  • End-users (Citizen) – participating in functional choices throughout the process, define the specific needs (functionality, performance, service models, etc..), Complementary systems engineering and services already in place, and appreciate operationally verify the effectiveness of the new applications, reduce investment costs for the development of similar services for their structure.
  • Industry – developing innovative and competitive products and applications for which you can develop a market for national and international level.
